DRC: ARJPDH Accuses AFC/M23 of Summary Executions, Torture and Forced Labor
ARJPDH, a member of the Coalition for the International Criminal Court (ICC), has raised serious allegations of human rights violations allegedly committed by AFC/M23 rebels in areas under their control in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo.
According to a report by the organization, based on numerous testimonies as well as an analysis of photographs and videos, AFC/M23 elements allegedly committed summary executions, torture, forced labor and forced recruitment of local populations, particularly in some mining areas.
ARJPDH also claims to have documented alleged exploitation and trafficking of mineral resources in territories controlled by AFC/M23. The organization specifically points to an alleged trade in gold and coltan, with sacks of minerals reportedly being illegally transported to Rwanda.
The accusations presented in the report are described by ARJPDH as the result of documentation work based on testimonies collected from the field and an examination of visual materials.
The organization is calling for increased international attention to the situation in areas affected by the conflict, as well as further investigations to establish responsibility and document possible international crimes.
