The Uganda Police Force has strongly denied reports claiming that opposition leader and National Unity Platform (NUP) figure Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, was abducted overnight and taken to an undisclosed location.

In an official statement released on Monday, police authorities dismissed the allegations as “deceitful and inciteful”, accusing their authors of deliberately attempting to portray security agencies as brutal and as violators of the rights of a political candidate.

According to the police, the circulating claims are false and aimed at misleading the public, heightening political tensions, and undermining public trust in state security institutions.

“These allegations are intended to depict the security agencies as brutal and as violators of the rights of a political candidate,” the statement read, insisting that no such abduction took place.

The reports had rapidly spread on social media, sparking concern among supporters of the opposition and renewed debate over political freedoms and the conduct of security forces in Uganda, especially during politically sensitive periods.

As of now, Bobi Wine’s team has not issued a detailed response addressing the police denial, while observers continue to closely monitor the situation amid Uganda’s tense political climate.
