The Executive Director of the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC)
has issued a strong call for responsible journalism, emphasizing that elections require professionalism, ethics, and strict adherence to the law by all media practitioners.

Speaking with clarity, the UCC Executive Director stressed that the media must never be used as a tool for political abuse, violence, or lawlessness, particularly during sensitive electoral periods.

Clear Red Lines Set by UCC

The Executive Director made it clear that the UCC will not tolerate the following practices by media houses or digital platforms:

  • Live coverage of riots or violent incidents, which may escalate unrest

  • Incitement to violence or hate speech, whether on broadcast media or online platforms

  • Unofficial declaration of election results, a responsibility that lies exclusively with the

According to UCC, these actions are illegal and pose serious risks to public safety and national stability.

Protecting Lives and National Stability

The UCC warned that irresponsible reporting during elections can endanger lives, fuel tensions, and potentially destabilize the nation. Media outlets were therefore urged to prioritize accuracy, restraint, and national interest over sensationalism.

Commitment to Ethical Communication

Through this message, the Uganda Communications Commission reaffirmed its commitment to promoting ethical communication, peaceful electoral processes, and a secure digital and broadcast environment for all citizens.

The statement aligns with the broader vision of strengthening democracy through responsible media practices, under the banner of Communications for All and Digital Uganda.
