In a strong statement on the ongoing conflict in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), U.S. diplomat Tibor Nagy Jr. emphasized that peace cannot be achieved with documents alone.
“A piece of paper is not enough to make peace. Fighting in eastern DRC will not stop until the Congo disarms the FDLR and Rwanda ends the M23. Otherwise, Katanga, rich in minerals, will be the next to fall. Signing agreements is not enough—it is essential to implement them!” he warned.
Nagy’s remarks highlight the fragile security situation in the DRC, where repeated agreements have failed to end hostilities, leaving local populations exposed to violence and instability. He stressed the urgent need for concrete action on the ground rather than relying solely on diplomatic accords.
The statement serves as a stark reminder that lasting peace in the region depends not just on agreements, but on decisive enforcement and accountability from all parties involved.
